Milestone Chronicles

From Provincial Vision to Basketball Fortress

August 19, 2002: Grand Inauguration by President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo

The Quezon Convention Center was officially inaugurated on August 19, 2002, during the provincial administration of Governor Wilfrido Enverga. Built entirely through prudent financial savings of the Quezon Provincial Government, the state-of-the-art air-conditioned complex was dedicated to elevate sports, youth development, and cultural gatherings across Southern Luzon. Then-President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo led the solemn ribbon-cutting ceremony.

PBA Out-of-Town Battles & National Tournaments

Immediately following its opening, the coliseum established itself as a staple destination for Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) regular-season out-of-town games. Historic franchises including the Barangay Ginebra Kings, San Miguel Beermen, and Magnolia Hotshots contested high-stakes Philippine Cup and Governors’ Cup matches on the Lucena hardwood. In addition, the arena hosted marquee games of the Philippine Basketball League (PBL), Liga Pilipinas, and regional collegiate championships.

2023 – Present: The Rise of the Quezon Huskers Era

In 2023, the Quezon Convention Center became the official home court for the Quezon Huskers franchise in the Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League (MPBL). With passionate hometown support packing the 7,000-seat bowl to capacity, the Huskers turned the arena into one of the most imposing home fortresses in Philippine professional basketball.
